EAST LANSING, Mich. - As the Michigan State football team prepares for spring practice to begin on March 24, relive some of the top moments from the 2014 season. In the first installment, msuspartans.com counts down the top special teams plays of the year.
2014 - TOP SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYS/MOMENTS OF THE YEAR
1. Marcus Rush blocks Baylor's 43-yard field-goal attempt with just over a minute remaining in the fourth quarter of the Cotton Bowl Classic and RJ Williamson returns it 36 yards to set up MSU's game-winning touchdown.
2. Michael Geiger breaks the 41-41 tie in the Cotton Bowl Classic with an extra-point following MSU's game-tying touchdown with 17 seconds remaining.
3. R.J. Shelton returns the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown at Penn State.
4. Spartans recover onside kick vs. Baylor in the 2015 Cotton Bowl Classic.
5. Michael Geiger shatters the school record for PATs in an MSU single-season with 72 (previous record: 53 by Brett Swenson in 2007).
6. Mike Sadler places a punt on the Nebraska 1-yard line in the win over the Cornhuskers in the Big Ten opener.
7. Shilique Calhoun blocks a 42-yard field-goal attempt vs. Wyoming and Darian Hicks returns it 26 yards to set up MSU's fifth touchdown of the first half.
8. Mike Sadler booms a season-long 66-yard punt at Maryland to pin the Terrapins on their own 12-yard line.
9. Macgarett Kings' career-long 43-yard punt return sets up MSU's first touchdown against Eastern Michigan.
10. Kevin Cronin leads the Big Ten with 46 touchbacks.
