Defenseman Jerad Rosburg spent the last two seasons with the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL. He grew up in Ohio as a Michigan State fan with a love for both hockey and football.
Why did you choose MSU?
First off, MSU has been my favorite school since I was little, so that played a huge role. I fell in love with the school all over again when I came for a visit. I love the way the program is going, as well as the coaching staff.
If you had to describe your style of play in one word what would it be?
Solid. I feel like I'm consistent. I'm not going to go around and dangle everyone every shift but I'll play solid, steady and contribute in that way.
Do you have any pre-game superstitions?
I always get dressed left to right and I always eat the same meals on game days.
What is something Spartan fans should know about you off of the ice?
I'm a big outdoors guy. I like fishing, wandering through the woods, floating down rivers on kayaks and anything else outdoors.
Who is your favorite NHL player and who do you model your game after?
My favorite NHL player is probably Ryan McDonough. He's a left-handed defenseman and I think I play sort of like him. He's a bigger guy but still has great skills and a big presence out there so I try and learn from him.
Where are some of your favorite places you've traveled for hockey?
Going overseas is always fun. I've been to Sweden, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Russia. Places in Canada like Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa are pretty cool, too. It's just fun to explore all the different places and learn about different cultures.
What's it like having your father as an NFL coach? Did you ever play football?
I played flag football for a couple years but hockey and football are kind of the same season, so I've never really had time to play tackle football. I love football.
You missed a majority of the 2014-15 season with an injury, how has the recovery been?
It was a tough year last year - I only played 12 regular season games. It's been going well though. I've been rehabbing with Dave Carrier so hopefully I'll be ready to go soon.
Coach Anastos mentioned that you have the potential to play on both special teams. Is this something you take pride in -- your durability and versatility?
Yes, of course. Special teams, now more than ever, is a huge part of the game. It's very important, so I love being on special teams whether that be the penalty kill or power play -- I love just making things happen.
