● MSU moves to 46-20 in Big Ten home openers, including a 18-3 mark under head coach Tom Izzo.
● Michigan State advances the all-time series against Illinois to 59-58 in favor of the Spartans with a 37-20 advantage in games played in East Lansing. MSU has won 10 of the last 15 and 12 of the last 18 against Illinois.
● The 25-point advantage is the largest margin of victory MSU has had over Illinois in program history. The previous high was 22.
● Illinois marks the 10th team MSU has held to under 40 percent from the field and the 11th team the Spartans have held below 35 percent from behind the 3-point arc.
● The Spartans are 14-12 all-time on January 7, including 12-7 at home. The last January 7 matchup resulted in a 72-68 OT victory over Ohio State in 2014.
● Freshman guard Matt McQuaid tied his career-best five assists and broke a three-game scoreless streak, sinking 3-6 from the field for 10 points against Illinois. It marked his first double-figure scoring game of the season.
● The Spartans' 47 first-half points ties the season-best points in a half, originally set in the second half at Iowa on Dec. 29. Tonight marks the second game in three matchups that the Spartans have scored 47 points in the half.
● Senior forward Matt Costello is averaging 14.5 rebounds per game over the last two games, grabbing 14 boards to go along with nine points and two blocks against Illinois. Costello has had double-figure rebounding performances in three of the past four games. The Spartans are a perfect 5-0 this season when Costello records double-figure rebounds.
● Freshman forward Deyonta Davis turned away four shots against the Fighting Illini. He has now blocked 36 attempts on the season for an average of 2.3 blocks per game.
● Walk-on Greg Roy made his Spartan debut, appearing in the final minute of play.
