
Spartans Conclude Day One at Big Ten Indoors

EAST LANSING, Michigan - After a long day of competition the Michigan State men's tennis team wrapped up the first day of the Big Ten Indoor Tournament on Friday, November 4 at the Nielson Tennis Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.
The day began with doubles play, where the four pair of Spartan teams ultimately conceded to their opponents in the first round of action. The pair of sophomores, Ivan Rakic and Colin Harvey dropped to Penn State 6-1.
Sophomore Billy Shisler and freshman Doug Francken lost their first doubles play match 6-2 to David Kohan and Henry Gordon of Penn State. Junior Brett Forman and redshirt sophomore Alexander Kim fought valiantly, but lost to Osgar O'hoisin and John Zordani of Wisconsin 6-4. The final doubles match for the Spartans was the pair of juniors, Michael Dube and Jasper Koenen who fell to a duo of Wisconsin opponents, 7-5.
Singles play occurred later on and the Spartans had three players advance to the next round. Rakic, Koenen, Francken, Shisler, and Harvey all dropped their first round decisions.
Kim defeated Elliott Sprecher of Wisconsin in his first round of singles, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.Forman kept the streak rolling downing his opponent, Darius Mackenzie from Wisconsin 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Dube rounded out the first round of singles competition with a victory over Christian Lutschaunig of Penn State, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.
Michigan State will return to action tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. Results will be posted to msuspartans.com, and live results will be posted to the Tournament Page.
