Nick Trimble Wins Edinboro Open

EAST LANSING, Mich. â€" Michigan State's Nick Trimble won the 157-pound title at the Edinboro Open on Saturday (Feb. 6) after going 6-0 at the tournament, including an 11-5 decision over Eastern Michigan's Zac Carson in the first-place match.
Trimble, who is redshirting this season for the Spartans after spending three years in the starting lineup at 149 pounds, also defeated Tyler Zimmer of Columbia (9-1), Michael Shaw of Eastern Michigan (5-0), Jordan Kutler of Lehigh (MFF), Casey Sparkman of Kent State (8-7) and Oliver Pierce of Arizona State (3-1 SV).
Trimble took fourth at the Cleveland State Open on Dec. 12 with a 3-2 record. He was one win away from qualifying for the NCAA Championships last season at 149 pounds after placing eighth at the Big Ten Championships.
True freshman Logan Griffin, who is also redshirting, placed runner-up at 125 pounds. He recorded four wins before falling to Aaron Assad of Missouri in the championship match.
Junior Travis Curley reached the semifinals at 165 pounds and placed fourth with a 3-2 record.
