NOTES AND NOTABLES
Michigan State, which sits just outside the CRCA Division I top 20 poll this week, heads to Columbus this weekend for the B1G/ACC Double Dual.
No. 3 Ohio State hosts Saturday's races, held on the Buckeyes' home course on the Scioto River at Griggs Reservoir. Due to the forecast of high winds in the afternoon, the first set of races will begin just after 7 am, and the second half of the dual is slated to begin at 9:30.
The Spartans will face No. 7 Michigan and No. 4 Virginia in the first half of the racing session, and face Clemson and the Wolverines in the second half. MSU raced Virginia in the opening weekend in the Cardinal Invitational at Oak Ridge, but this is the first time they will line up with the other two crews.
"We've had some time after our first competition at Oak Ridge to assess where we are and some of the changes that we wanted to make," said head coach Matt Weise. "We've had a far different training regimen this year solely because of the mild winter - so we have had the opportunity to be out on the water earlier, which is a benefit we haven't enjoyed in some of our more recent seasons. We were really encouraged by much of what we saw at Oak Ridge, so this is another measuring stick for us."
The Spartans raced at Michigan with Indiana last week in a series of scrimmage pieces, giving the Spartans some additional racing experience to fine-tune their raceplans and technique since their competition on March 13. The three B1G squads not only raced head to head, but also completed some head race pieces in the first session of their scrimmages.
