Meet the Spartans: Jake Tucker

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State wrestling team will feature a freshman each week in order to "Meet the Spartans" leading up to the 2016-17 season.
This week freshman Jake Tucker (Lowell, Ind./Mount Carmel High School) sat down with msuspartans.com to answer some questions.
Why did you choose to wrestle at Michigan State?
I chose to wrestle at Michigan State because I saw a lot of success in my future as a Spartan wrestler. The coaching staff is very experienced and they have the tools to make me a better wrestler.
What are you most excited about as you begin your Spartan wrestling career?
I'm the most excited about getting in the room and seeing how I compete with the upperclassmen.
When did you first start wrestling?
My father says I started rolling around at the age of 3, however I didn't start competing until I was about 5.
Favorite wrestling memory?
When I was a sophomore in high school, I won the match to place at state in overtime. I beat a kid who had beaten me three times earlier in the year.
What’s your major at Michigan State and why?
Technically I'm undeclared, but I want to pursue a writing career. Possibly journalism or screenwriting.
Who has taught you the most about wrestling growing up?
My father has taught me a lot about the mental aspect of wrestling. For the physical part of wrestling, I would say Coach John Kading was responsible for turning me into the wrestler I am today.
What superhero power would you have if you could choose one?
Invisibility without a doubt.
Favorite Meal?
Buffalo wings
Favorite TV show?
Seinfeld. I can recite every episode.
Favorite thing to do besides wrestling?
Watch movies or go out with my friends.
