Gymnastics Heads East For First Quad Meet

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State gymnastics teams travels to Piscataway, N.J., to face Rutgers, Cornell and Ursinus College this weekend in its first quad meet of the season. The meet will take place on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. ET in the RAC on the campus of Rutgers. The meet can be streamed lived on the Rutgers Athletics Facebook page, or fans can go to msuspartans.com for a live results link.
The Spartans enter the weekend 1-2 on the season with an average team score of 194.217. MSU's best event so far has been the floor exercise with an average team score of 48.883, while the Spartans average 48.708 on bars.
Rutgers is 5-4 overall and 0-2 in the Big Ten and owns an average score of 192.733, with the Scarlet Knight's best event average being a 48.408 on bars. The Big Red of Cornell has averaged a 191.000 over its first two meets and Ursinus has an average team score of 188.125.
Junior Hailee Westney is off to a hot start to the 2017 season, as she has won the bars title at each of the first three meets. Her 9.875 average is tied for 15th in the nation, fifth in the central region and ranks third in the Big Ten.
Senior Nicola Deans is coming off the first floor title of her career last weekend vs. Minnesota. She also has won vault twice this season and has one All-Around title. Deans' All-Around average of 38.800 is good for 13th in the Big Ten and 14th in the region.
