Michigan State had its four-game winning streak snapped with the 39-31 three-overtime loss to Northwestern . . . it tied for the longest game in Spartan history . . . MSU is now 1-2 in three-overtime games (beat Georgia in 2012 Outback Bowl; lost to Michigan in 2004) . . . the Spartans are 6-7 all-time in overtime games and 4-5 in OT under Mark Dantonio . . . MSU is 0-2 vs. Northwestern in overtime (lost in 2007) . . . it marked MSU's first overtime game since falling at Indiana last season.
Saturday's loss marked the first time Dantonio lost at Ryan Field in his career (4-1) . . . Dantonio is now 5-4 against Northwestern . . . MSU leads the all-time series, 37-19, including a 19-11 record in Evanston.
OFFENSE
Brian Lewerke set school single-game records for passing yards (445), total offense (475) and completions (39) . . . his 57 passing attempts also marked a career high and tied for the second most in school history (record: 61 by Brian Hoyer vs. Penn State in 2006) . . . MSU's previous single-game records were 400 passing yards (Bill Burke vs. Michigan, 1999), 416 yards of total offense (Connor Cook vs. Indiana, 2015) and 35 completions (Jeff Smoker vs. Ohio State, 2003) . . . Lewerke also threw a career-high four touchdowns, tied for the second most in school history (accomplished 13 previous times) . . . on MSU's 12-play, 88-yard game-tying touchdown drive at the end of the fourth quarter, Lewerke was 10-of-11 for 88 yards on the drive, capped by a 13-yard touchdown pass to Felton Davis III.
Cody White's 165 receiving yards were the most by a Spartan freshman in a single game in school history and 19th-most overall by an MSU wide receiver . . . it also marked the third-most receiving yards by a Spartan against Northwestern . . . White hauled in a career-high nine catches and two touchdowns (6 yards in first quarter, 11 yards in second overtime) . . . he caught a season-long 60-yard pass in the first quarter, the longest pass play of the season for the Spartans . . . he also had a 45-yard reception on third-and-18 in the fourth quarter.
Darrell Stewart set career highs in receptions (11) and receiving yards (98) . . . his 11 catches tied for the seventh most by an MSU player in a single game . . . Stewart had five receptions for 42 yards on MSU's game-tying TD drive at the end of the fourth quarter.
Felton Davis III finished with eight receptions for 95 yards and tied his career high with two touchdowns (13 yards to tie the game with 25 seconds left in the game; 6 yards in first overtime) . . . he has a team-best seven TD catches in 2017, tied for 11th most in an MSU season.
For the second year in a row vs. Northwestern, MSU set a school single-game record with 445 yards passing (424 in 2016) . . . the 39 completions also established a single-game Spartan record.
The Spartans collected a season-high 540 yards of total offense.
DEFENSE
MSU held Northwestern to 64 yards rushing, marking the fifth opponent MSU has held under 100 yards rushing this season; however, the Spartans allowed a season high 432 yards of total offense and 368 yards passing.
Joe Bachie led the Spartans in tackles for the sixth time this season with eight stops, including a 3-yard tackle for loss.
Josiah Scott tallied a career-high three pass break-ups and also had six tackles.
