Three former Michigan State golfers have all advanced to the LPGA qualifying school finals. Sarah Burnham, Liz Nagel and Allyssa Ferrell will next compete Oct. 22 – Nov. 3 in Pinehurst, North Carolina, at Pinehurst Resort in the Q-Series Finals for a shot at LPGA membership for 2019.
Â
Burnahm and Nagel both earned their spots in the LPGA Q-Series through placing in the top 25 of the Qualifying Tournament Stage II, which wrapped up Thursday (Oct. 18) at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida.
Â
"We are thrilled for our three Spartans who will have the opportunity to qualify for the 2019 LPGA Tour," MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll said. "Each of these young women has worked extremely hard to get to the final state of Q-School next week. They have all represented MSU exceptionally through their careers and we extremely proud of them."
Â
Burnham finished the Stage II tournament in third place at 9-under-par 279 (71-70-70-68). She was under par in all four rounds and carded the second lowest score of the day with a 4-under-par 68 on Thursday.
Â
Only seven players in the field of 190-plus competitors finished the second stage of qualifying 7-under-par or better.
Â
Nagel was even-par 288 (77-71-69-71) to earn her bid to next week's tournament.
Â
Ferrell was exempt to the Q-Series Finals by way of her performance on the Symetra Tour this past season.
Â
A minimum of the top 45 players, and those tied for 45th, at next week's Q-Series Finals will receive LPGA membership for 2019. The players will compete in two 72-hole, stroke-play events held on consecutive weeks. Scores will be cumulative over the two weeks (i.e. if a competitor shoots 4-under in week one, she begins week two at 4-under). There are no cuts in the event.
Â
The first week of competition will be held on Pinehurst No. 6 and the second week will be staged on Pinehurst No. 7.
