EAST LANSING, Mich. --Â Michigan State field hockey senior Madison O'Neill has been selected as an alternate field player for this year's Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Senior Game.
The Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game features top senior players in the nation. Selected seniors are given the opportunity to represent their institution while competing against their peers. This year, the Division I Senior Game will take place in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. The Senior Game is currently set for 6:00 p.m. EST on Friday, November 16, 2018 following the conclusion of the NCAA semifinal games at the University of Louisville's Trager Stadium.
52 seniors were selected to make the rosters with 14 players selected as alternates. Alternates will take the spot of student-athletes who have been selected as participants but are unable to compete in the Division I Senior Game.
O'Neill was named a preseason Big Ten Player to Watch in 2018 and has been a key player for the Spartans throughout her tenure in East Lansing. In 2018, O'Neill ranks third on the team in points (4) with one goal and two assists.
The senior has appeared in 74 career games for the Spartans and has made 45 starts. To date, O'Neill has amassed 13 points on two goals and nine assists. O'Neill scored the second goal of her career earlier this season in a 2-1 victory over Central Michigan.
O'Neill and the Spartans are set for the first round of the Big Ten tournament later this week as they face Indiana in the first round on Friday, October 26. The winner of Friday's game will face top-seeded Maryland on Sunday. Game times have yet to be decided.
Last season, MSU back Simone Vagnoni was selected as an alternate for the game. For a complete list of participants, click here.
