Spartans Set for Wildcat Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State women's tennis team will travel to Evanston, Ill. this weekend for the Wildcat Invite. The tournament will take place at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center from Friday, Oct. 5 through Sunday, Oct. 7.
In addition to the Spartans and host Wildcats, participating schools include DePaul, Pitt, Michigan, UIC, Chicago State, Columbia, Princeton, Utah, Lewis, Illinois and Kentucky.
Last time out, four Spartans competed at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic to open up the fall tournament schedule, including freshmen Lauren Lemonds, Maja Pietrowicz, sophomore Mary Lewis and junior Samantha Memije.
MSU has six competitors competing in this weekend's Wildcat Invite, including seniors Emily Metcalf and Davina Nguyen. Metcalf and Nguyen paired for doubles last season with a 10-6 record at No. 1 doubles.
In the opening rounds of the Wildcat Invite, the Spartans will have six players competing in the singles competition. Freshman Nicole Stephens will face off against Fleur Eggink of Marquette, Metcalf against Akvile Parazainskaite of Kentucky and Nguyen will face Utah's Lindsay Hung.
Also in singles, junior Julia Fenn will take on Tiffany Chen of Princeton, freshman Kate Harvey will face Camila Moreno of Pittsburgh and sophomore Caroline Szabo will compete against Pittsburgh's Mariona Perez Noguera.
In doubles play, the duo of Metcalf and Stephens will face off against Kentucky's Anastasia Tkachenko and Brianna Tulloch. Nguyen and Szabo will pair to take on Grace Joyce and Nicole Kalhorn of Princeton.
Harvey and Fenn will also compete in round robin doubles, which will consist of four matches, with their first match against Aleksandra Sredojevic and Joie Reisch of Lewis University.
Next up on the fall schedule for the Spartans is the ITA Midwest Regional Championships from Oct. 18-Oct. 23 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
