EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team concludes its fall season this weekend at the Harvard Invite in Cambridge, Mass. Competition will take place from Friday, Nov. 2, to Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Murr Center Courts.
In addition to the Spartans and host Harvard, participating schools include Boston University, Cornell, Georgetown and Syracuse.
The teams will compete in a hidden-dual format, with Michigan State commencing the tournament on Friday, at 12:30 p.m.
"This is the culmination of all our hard work this fall, so hopefully cleaner, smarter tennis from the girls," head coach Kim Bruno said. "Let's treat it like we're starting in January right now because this is the end to a beginning. We have to look at it like that and take as much from it as we can. Then it's January and it's game time."
The Spartans were well-represented last time out at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. MSU had eight participants take the court, including four in the qualifying singles round, four in main draw singles and four doubles teams.
"I think the most impressive thing with them is their competitiveness, their ability to be in all of their matches," Bruno said. "I think we still need to figure out how to play smarter tennis at the correct moments, so instead of coming up on the short end of those big moments, we come on the front end of those moments."
MSU has also had impressive newcomer performances this fall, as sophomore Mary Lewis, along with freshmen Maja Pietrowicz and Lauren Lemonds qualified for main draw singles of the ITA Midwest Regionals.
"I've seen great improvement in work ethic and comradery has been great," Bruno said. "It's been very enjoyable to work with this bunch of young women."
Results will be posted on msuspartans.com after the conclusion of the tournament.
