Spartans Finish Third At Northwestern Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's and women's swimming teams brought home third-place finishes from the Northwestern TYR Invitational. The men finished third out of six teams, while the women finished third out of seven teams.

"We did okay and finished up pretty good. We had some good swims today and our relays did pretty well too," said Head Coach Matt Gianiodis. "We got a lot of things accomplished but still have a lot of work ahead of us until we get to February and with some kids going to Greensboro in a couple weeks. All-in-all it was a good weekend and I'm happy."

In the 50 butterfly, Gabe Whitaker finished third and Josh Lantow finished fifth with times of 22.27 and 22.58, respectively.Â

Kennedy Truex took fifth, 51.43, and Olivia Chick took sixth, 51.66 in the 100 freestyle., With a time of 44.97, Lantow finished in fourth-place also in the 100 freestyle. With his time, Lantow is now the fifth fastest 100 freestyler in Michigan State history.

Four Spartans placed in the 200 breaststroke in today's meet. For the women Ellie Roche placed fourth, 2:15.79, and Abbey Neveling placed fifth, 2:16.22. For the men, Jonathan Lee placed second, 2:02.72, and Cooper Prue placed fifth, 2:05.28.

Scott Piper swam his way into fourth-place in the 200 butterfly. He clocked at time of 1:51.56.

In the 400-freestyle relay, Bukowski, Courtney Aycock, Chick, Allie Heineman and Truex finished fifth, touching the pad at 3:27.73. Placing third with a time of 2:58.93 was Aidan Farley, Lantow, Nehemiah Mork and Payton Woods.

The Spartans return to competition as a team on Jan. 4 as they host Purdue at McCaffree Pool.
