
Spartans Defeat Kenyon On Senior Day

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State swimming and diving beat Kenyon College on senior day. The Spartan women beat the Ladies, 191-109, and the Spartan men beat Lords, 190-108.

The men took home 15 first-place finishes and the women finished with nine.

"I'm really happy because we raced really well, and I think that's what the whole day was about," head coach Matt Gianiodis said. "I'm happy that Jess brought his team up here and gave us an opportunity, I'm happy for our seniors, but more importantly our kids really raced hard."
The Spartan women had four swimmers who took home first place finishes.

Senior Ellie Roche came in first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.28.

Ending the meet with two first-place finishes was senior Emily Brunett. Brunett claimed the top spot in the 200 butterfly, 2:07.05, and the 100 butterfly, 58.04.

Following her fellow seniors, sophomore Abbey Neveling finished in the top spot with a time of 2:21.59 in the 200 breaststroke.
For the men's team, the Spartans had four swimmers who captured two first-place finishes.

Freshman Jonathan Lee claimed the top spot in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. His times were 56.95 and 2:04.49, respectively.

Junior Scott Piper took first in the 200 butterfly, 1:51.29, and the 400 IM, 4:04.11, while sophomore Charlie Ryan took first in the 100 and 200 backstroke with times of 50.89 and 1:52.66.

Lastly with two first-place finishes was sophomore Aidan Farley in the 500 and 1000 free. His finished with times of 4:38.83 and 9:36.82.

On the women's diving team, Morgan Wellenzohn, Amanda Ling and Elise Turke grabbed first, second and third place, in that order, in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Wellenzohn's score of 323.03 in the 3-meter is a personal best.
For the men, Jakob Heberling placed first in the 3-meter and second in the 1-meter dives with scores of 287.33 and 265.34, respectively.

"Morgan, Amanda and Elise all had personal bests, so it was really nice. Morgan won both boards on senior day. Amanda did a brand-new dive which is the hardest dives that women are doing right now, and she did a real good job of it," diving coach Eric Best said. "Jakob has been sick all week and he did a great job on winning the 3-meter."
The women are back in action next week as they travel to Bowling Green to race the Falcons. The meet will be held on Nov. 9 at 6 p.m.
