EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State swimming and diving teams will be sending athletes to both Ohio and Indiana this weekend for a pair of different challenges.
The women's team will race Bowling Green on Friday, and four Spartan representatives will represent both Michigan State and the Big Ten at the B1G-ACC All-Star Challenge, which will be hosted by Purdue on Saturday and Sunday.
Head Coach Matt Gianiodis is enthusiastic for both events for the Spartans this weekend.
"This is a pretty annual event that we've had. This will be the third head coach down there since we've started this, but Rickey Perkins is a good guy," said Gianiodis. "Our girls, coming off the weekend and then going into next weekend with the Northwestern Invite, should be pretty excited."
The Spartans are looking for their second win of the season after defeating the Ladies of Kenyon College last weekend. The women claimed nine first-place finishes to win, 191-109.
A strong performance came from senior Emily Brunett who finished first in the 200 and 100 butterfly with times of 2:07.05 and 58.04, respectively.
The Big Ten-ACC All-Star Challenge starts Saturday in West Lafayette, Indiana. Michigan State will be sending seniors Ellie Roche and Ana Sortland for the women and juniors Michael Schwers and Payton Woods for the men to Indiana.
"I'm really looking forward to this. We did this two years ago and it was a really good experience for the kids who went there," said Gianiodis. "For Ana, Ellie, Payton and Michael it'll be a great experience to be a part of that and hopefully the Big Ten will win."
Results from Friday and the weekend will be available at msuspartans.com following the conclusion of each contest.
