Cole Chewins Named Academic All-American for Second Straight Year

Chewins named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I second team.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – For the second year in a row, Michigan State junior offensive tackle Cole Chewins has earned Academic All-America honors.
Chewins, a first-team selection in 2017, was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I Second Team on Monday, as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
A native of Clarkston, Michigan, Chewins owns a 3.91 grade-point average as a finance major. He will graduate later this month and has been accepted to begin a master's program for finance in the 2019 spring semester. The 6-8, 290-pound Chewins has been MSU's starting left tackle the past two seasons and has played in 35 career games, including 24 starts.
"We are very proud of Cole and happy for him and his family as his hard work and outstanding performance continue to earn him recognition on the national level," said Todd Edwards, Executive Director of Student-Athlete Services. "Having also been named the Potsy Ross Award winner as our team's top scholar athlete, Cole now also has the distinction of being a two-time Academic All-American, which puts him in rare company. He has completed his finance degree ahead of schedule and will now continue to pursue excellence in his graduate studies."
Chewins was also named Academic All-Big Ten for the third consecutive year last week.
This marks the ninth time a Spartan has earned Academic All-America honors under 12th-year head coach Mark Dantonio (Blair White, 2009 second team; Mike Sadler, 2011 second team, 2012 second team, 2013 first team, 2014 first team; Max Bullough, 2012 second team, 2013 first team; Cole Chewins, 2017 first team, 2018 second team).
