
Thirteen Spartans Compete at Storm Open

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- 13Â Michigan State reserves and redshirt student-athletes competed at the annual Lake Erie College Storm Open in Painesville, Ohio on Sunday, December 1.
Among the Spartans that competed were Peyton Omania, Stone Moscovic, Austin Franco, Joe Eisho, Ethan Curtin, Ian Burress, Jackson Renicker, Kole Krauss, Austin Hiles, Nicholas Cooper, Wyatt Cool, Layne Malczewski and Nathan Atienza. Five Spartans placed at the event with one champion, one third-place finisher, and three top-five finishes.
Omania was MSU's lone champion at the event, defeating Austin Shaw of Seton Hall University by technical fall in the finals at 149 pounds. Hiles placed third for the green and white at 165 pounds by taking down Ohio State's Fritz Schierl by way of a 3-2 decision in the third-place bout.
Moscovic finished in fourth for MSU at 133 pounds after losing a 9-5 decision to Kent State's Henry Feuer. Renicker was fifth at 141 pounds, defeating Kevin Kelly of Binghampton by fall (1:47). Atienza also earned a fifth-place finish, this time at 165 pounds with a victory by fall (2:54) over Ohio's Ben Schneider.
Cooper was the consolation champion at 285 pounds, defeating both of his opponents on the bracket by fall after dropping his opening round bout. Malczewski was the consolation champion at 174 pounds with a 16-0 tech. fall victory over Logan Stanley of Ohio University.
