Field Hockey Trio Named to Big Ten Players to Watch List

Senior Madison O'Neill, sophomore Cara Bonshak, and sophomore Lia Sinisi earned preseason honors.
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Michigan State University field hockey senior Madison O'Neill, sophomore Cara Bonshak, and sophomore Lia Sinisi were each named to the 2018 Big Ten Field Hockey Preseason Players to Watch list, as announced by the conference, on August 20, 2018.
O'Neill, a forward, appeared in and started all 19 games for the Spartans last season. She registered five shots on goal as a junior and ranked third on the team with four assists. O'Neill earned 2017 Academic All-Big Ten honors and was named to the 2018 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars list.
Bonshak, a midfielder, appeared in 14 games as a freshman and started in two last season. The Whitehall, Pa. native tallied one goal and one assist for the Green and White in 2017.
Sinisi, a forward, was the only freshman to appear in and start all 19 games for MSU last season. In 2017, Sinisi took 11 shots and registered four shots on goal for the Spartans.
Michigan State officially opens its 2018 regular season at home on Friday, August 24 with a 1 p.m. match against Old Dominion University at Ralph Young Field. Old Dominion finished its 2017 slate with an 8-10 record. Top returners for the Monarchs include forward Erin Huffman (25 points), Alexa Ostoich (14 points), and Lacey Frazier (2.28 GaAvg).
