EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State men's soccer assistant coach Cale Wassermann has been named the head coach at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
"The MSU soccer family is extremely happy for Cale and his wife Shelby! Cale is an outstanding coach and person. He has all the qualities both on and off the field to be a highly successful Division I coach. SIUE is getting not only a great coach but outstanding person," MSU head coach Damon Rensing. "Cale came to MSU as a top DII coach with the intention of improving the MSU soccer program while preparing himself to be a Division I head coach. He has helped MSU reach new heights and is certainly ready to lead SIUE. We wish Cale, Shelby, and their soon to be son all the best in Edwardsville."
Wassermann spent four seasons as an assistant coach on Rensing's staff with the Spartans. He helped MSU to back-to-back Elite Eight appearances, as part of four NCAA Tournament appearances, including facing SIUE in 2016. "It has been an amazing journey here at Michigan State. I will always cherish the memories, experiences, and relationships built with these Spartan student-athletes. "Every day, I learned something in this program that I can take with me going forward but one thing that is evident daily is that college soccer is more than just wins and losses, its about people. We are very excited about this next step in our lives and my time here at MSU has helped prepare me for this next opportunity."
