Spartans Complete Day Two of ITA Midwest Regional in Columbus

John Carlin begins main draw singles tomorrow at 8 a.m.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Two Michigan State men's tennis student-athletes competed Friday at the ITA Midwest Regional in Columbus.
Sophomore Anthony Pero competed in round three qualifying action and paired with junior John Carlin in doubles play. Pero, who reached the third round with a 7-6(6), 6-2 win over Tamas Zador of DePaul, took on Gabriel Carvajal of Valparaiso. After dropping the first set (6-2), Pero rallied to grab the second set, 6-3. Pero's late rally fell short in the third set, falling to Carvajal 7-5 in the third set.
Carlin and Pero earned a matchup with Siimar and Brown of Michigan in first round play. The duo stayed strong throughout the set, knocking off the Wolverine duo, 8-4. The Spartan pair would be matched up against No.7-seeded Monsti and Clark of Illinois. Monsti and Clark knocked off the MSU tandem, 8-4
In the 64-man singles main draw, Carlin is slated to take on Tristan McCormick of Illinois, who is the 10-seed in the main draw. Play picks up tomorrow, Oct. 19, at 8 a.m.

Main Draw Doubles
Pero/Carlin (MSU) def. Brown/Siimar (UM), 8-6
Monsti/Clark (ILL) def. Pero/Carlin (MSU), 8-4
