MADISON, Wis. – Michigan State women's cross country raced to a fifth-place finish at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Friday afternoon on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The No. 10-ranked Spartan women raced to a fifth-place finish in the 6k, tallying 219 points, in a field that boasted 20 ranked teams.
"I thought we were competitive; we had a lot of people make big progress today," Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Walt Drenth said. "I think our energy is good. All of the things that you want to know and you just want to be reinforced. That was probably the most important lesson for us. From here, we just have to keep moving and learning; that's the critical part for us. I just know that we're starting to define ourselves as a pretty great group."

The people that ran well, just managed the things they could and did, so I was really pleased with that. The one's that didn't just got distracted."
