EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State wrestling kicks off fall action this Friday, Oct. 25 with its annual Green and White Meet at 6 p.m. inside IM Sports West Arena. Admission is free, and the first 100 fans will receive a Michigan State bandana.
The Green and White wrestle offs will start with preliminary matches earlier in the day, followed by the finals set to kick off at 6 p.m. inside IM West. This year's finals format includes 10 matches in a dual meet format with teams Green and White, and will start at 125 pounds and end at 285 pounds.
"Looking forward to watching our guys in a true competition setting," said fourth year head coach Roger Chandler. "I know they are looking forward to it as well. They've been training since last spring and through the summer and fall. I'm sure they're ready to compete as this is an exciting part of the year."
The Spartans lose just three seniors from Chandler's 2018-19 team that finished with a 10-8 record and 33rd at the NCAA Team Championships. MSU returns 12 letterwinners from a season ago, highlighted by All-American Rayvon Foley (125 pounds) and NCAA Qualifiers, Drew Hughes (165 pounds) and Cameron Caffey (184 pounds). Foley (No. 6), Hughes (No. 21), Caffey (No. 12) and redshirt junior Jake Tucker (No. 24) all are ranked in the top-25 in the latest FloWrestling preseason rankings.
MSU welcomes nine newcomers to the 2019-20 team, including five freshmen and three transfers. The freshmen include Jordan Crace (Marysville, Ohio/Bellefontaine), Jordan Hamdan (Hudson, Mich./Hudson), Miles Hoey (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel), Cameron Monzadeh (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) and Easton Turner (Novi, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central). Brenden McRill (West Virginia), Garrett Pepple (Indiana) and Jacob Spiess (Eastern Michigan) are the three transfers for the Spartans.
The Spartans officially open the 2019-20 schedule by hosting the Michigan State Open on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Jenison Field House.
