Spartans Wrap-Up Fighting Irish Classic

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Michigan State men's golf team completed play at the Fighting Irish Classic on Tuesday, shooting a 7-over-par 291 at the Warren Golf Course. The Spartans finished 18-over-par 870 (285-294-291) for the tournament and in 11th place. Host Notre Dame won the tournament with a score of 16-under-par 836, eclipsing North Carolina by one stroke.

MSU sophomore Troy Taylor II registered his second top-10 finish of the season to lead the Spartans as he tied for ninth place at 2-under-par 211 (69-70-72). Taylor was in the top 10 all tournament and his 1-over-par 72 in Tuesday's final round ensured his second-best finish of the year.
"Troy did a really good job - he took some big steps forward this week," MSU head coach Casey Lubahn said.
Rutgers' Christopher Gotterup outpaced the field by eight strokes to take individual honors at 14-under-par 199.
Freshman Bradley Smithson shot his second-lowest round of the tournament on Tuesday with a 1-over-par 72. Smithson tied for 37th place at 6-over-par 219 (70-77-72).
James Piot (75-73-74) and Andrew Walker (71-78-73) tied for 44th place at 9-over-par 222.
Zach Rosendale was 17-over-par 230 (75-74-81). Devin Deogun played as an individual and finished 15-over-par 228 (78-74-76).
Michigan State will close the fall with the Quail Valley Intercollegiate, Oct. 20-21, in Vero Beach, Florida.
