Lewis Ranked No. 110 in ITA Singles Rankings

Junior Mary Lewis went 10-1 overall in singles this fall.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women's tennis junior Mary Lewis is ranked No. 110 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, as announced by the ITA.
Lewis went 3-1 against conference opponents and 10-1 overall in singles play this fall.
A highlight of the Bellflower, California, native's fall campaign was an upset victory over the No. 2-seed in main draw singles of the ITA Midwest Regionals last month.
After being one of the last remaining eight players in the qualifying singles bracket, Lewis qualified for the main draw and was the last Spartan standing in the tournament as she completed a thrilling three-set upset of the No. 2-seed in the bracket and No. 26 nationally ranked Chaira Lommer of Michigan.
After dropping the first set, 1-6, Lewis rallied back for a 6-3 win in the second set to force a third. The match was decided by a 7-6 (9) score for Lewis in the third to advance to the quarterfinals.
Lewis' only loss of the fall was No. 112 in the nation, Mia Rabinowitz of Illinois in three sets in the round of 16 at ITA Midwest Regionals. After dropping the first set, 3-6, Lewis rallied to a 6-3 victory in the second, before falling in the third set, 3-6.
UP NEXT: The Spartans begin dual season on Saturday, Jan. 25 in Athens, Georgia, for ITA Kickoff Weekend. MSU will take on Georgia at 2 p.m. in the first dual of the 2020 season.
