Peter Fisk: Fruit of The Labor

Senior walk-on linebacker Peter Fisk is wrapping up his final season as a Michigan State Spartan.
Fisk is a natural-born athlete who used his past athletic skills from also playing lacrosse in high school to accelerate his football career at MSU. Michigan State is known for their high-ranking tough defense, and it's a program that Fisk always had his eye on.
"I was always a fan and I wanted to play at the highest level I could. When I got this preferred walk-on, it's what I wanted to come do," said Fisk, a native of Grand Rapids.
Fisk was reluctant to see playing time early on, but has worked hard in his past seasons to earn respect on the scout team, which eventually earned him consistent playing time on kickoffs and kick returns.Â
"It's nice to see the fruit of your labor, so to speak. I've been thankful to be on the field my senior year and make some things happen. It's been a dream come true," Fisk said enthusiastically.
He has worked hard to prove his credibility on the field, and has learned over time that being a student-athlete takes a lot of hard work and perseverance.Â
"Waking up early and having a routine is beneficial. I think being at Michigan State really helped me and put me on another level with time management," Fisk said. "I think that's going to help me a lot more, along with other people who play DI football. I think being on a routine like this is helpful."
Hard work and dedication doesn't come easy, but it's all worth it when you get the chance to win alongside your brothers and teammates.Â
"Being in the locker room with all the guys after a win is the best feeling. That's always the best. Everyone is singing the fight song and enjoying themselves," Fisk said.
Although football undoubtedly brings players some of the best memories, many must think about life after football. For Fisk, this wasn't a challenge. Fisk plans to graduate from Michigan State in December with a degree in advertising management. He has specific plans for his future, and he can't wait to see what's in store.Â
"I just want to go through the ranks and do either commercial or residential real estate in Chicago," said Fisk. "I have several different interviews and options with different companies, so hopefully something works out."Â
Although this chapter of his life is coming to a close, he knows that he wouldn't have made it this far without the love and support of his family. He credits his success to his parents and past coaches who have sacrificed their time and dedication to help him achieve his goals.
"I just want to give a big thank you to my parents for helping me out every way they could and making this happen for me and also to my coaches in the past," Fisk said.
