Post-Game Notes: Maryland
• With the 19-16 win over Maryland, Michigan State is bowl eligible for the 12th time in the past 13 years under head coach Mark Dantonio . . . the Spartans are just the third Big Ten team to become bowl eligible 12 times in the past 13 seasons (Wisconsin: 13; Ohio State: 12).
• MSU has now won 91 games this decade, tied for the seventh-best decade in Big Ten history (Ohio State with 91 wins in the 1970s).
• MSU is 9-2 all-time against Maryland, including a 6-1 record in East Lansing and a 5-1 record in Big Ten games.
• Michigan State recognized 22 seniors in a pregame ceremony: Ryan Armour, Joe Bachie, Josh Butler, Cole Chewins, David Dowell, Peter Fisk, Jake Hartbarger, Tyler Higby, Davis Lewandowski, Brian Lewerke, Tommy Liesveld, Mike Panasiuk, Corey Pryor, Dante Razzano, Noah Sargent, Matt Seybert, Brandon Sowards, Darrell Stewart, Tyriq Thompson, Bryce Wilker, Kenny Willekes and Raequan Williams.
• The Spartans wore the decals "HB" and "1" on the back of their helmets in honor of Henry Bullough and Charles Rogers, who both passed away earlier this month.
OFFENSE
• Brian Lewerke completed 30-of-41 passes for 342 yards, marking his eighth career 300-yard passing game . . . the 342 passing yards marked a season high and the third-best outing of his career, along with the 20th most in school history . . . the 342 yards were also the most by a Spartan against Maryland (previous: 240 by Connor Cook in 2014) . . . Lewerke owns the top-two single-game passing marks with 445 vs. Northwestern in 2017 and 400 vs. Penn State in 2017 . . . Lewerke's 30 completions were a season high . . . Lewerke also had a 1-yard TD run in the second quarter, his second rushing TD of the season and ninth of his career . . . Lewerke crossed the 9,000-yard mark for total offense in his career (9,182 yards), which is second most in school history, trailing only Connor Cook (9,403 yards from 2012-15) . . . Lewerke won his 21st game as a starting QB, which is tied for third in school history, along with Jeff Smoker . . . Lewerke now has 695 pass completions, second most in school history (record: Kirk Cousins with 723) . . . Lewerke is just 27 passing yards shy of 8,000 for his career (7,973).
• True freshman Tre Mosley led MSU career highs in receptions (8) and receiving yards (73) . . . he has 17 catches for 166 yards in five games.
• Junior Cody White had four receptions for 84 yards and finished the regular season with a team-leading 58 catches for 825 yards.
• True freshman Anthony Williams had a career-high 115 all-purpose yards (five catches for 63 receiving yards; five carries for 13 rushing yards; two kickoff returns for 39 yards).
• The 342 passing yards were a season high for the Spartans.
• MSU held a 37:53-22:07 advantage in time of possession.
DEFENSE
• Kenny Willekes tied a season high with 2.5 tackles for loss (23 yards) and surpassed Julian Peterson to become the school's all-time leader in tackles for loss with 49.5 . . . Peterson had 48 TFLs in 1998-99 . . . Willekes also had 1.5 sacks (17 yards) and now has 24.5 career sacks, which is fourth most in school history . . . Willekes has a career-high nine sacks this season . . . he also has 14.5 TFLs, second most on the team . . . Willekes had six tackles overall.
• Senior defensive tackle Raequan Williams tied a Dantonio-era record by starting in his 41st consecutive game (Shilique Calhoun with 41 straight from 2013-15) . . . Williams had two tackles, including a half tackle for loss (4 yards), to go along with a QB hurry.
• Junior defensive end Jacub Panasiuk had 2.5 tackles for loss (15 yards), including a 7-yard sack . . . he blocked a Maryland PAT in the third quarter . . . he has five sacks and 11 tackles for loss this season.
• Senior defensive tackle Mike Panasiuk had 1.5 tackles for loss and his first fumble recovery.
• Sophomore safety Xavier Henderson tied a career high with two pass break-ups . . . he also had seven tackles, including a 1-yard loss.
• Junior linebacker Antjuan Simmons had six tackles, including one for a 4-yard loss, and also forced and recovered a fumble in the first quarter . . . he leads MSU with 15 TFLs this season.
• MSU had four sacks and 10 tackles for loss in the game . . . the Spartans also forced four three-and-outs on defense.
• Junior cornerback Josiah Scott picked off his career-best third pass of the season in the first quarter . . . he now has seven career interceptions.
• The Spartans caused three turnovers (Josiah Scott interception in first quarter; Antjuan Simmons forced fumble and recovery in first quarter; Noah Harvey sack and Mike Panasiuk fumble recovery in third quarter).
• MSU has not allowed points on the opponents' opening possession in any game this season.
SPECIAL TEAMS
• Matt Coghlin tied a career high with four field goals (40 yards in first quarter, 36 in second quarter, 32 and 33 in fourth quarter) . . . Coghlin kicked the game-winner with 2:10 left to put MSU on top, 19-16, marking his third career game-winning field goal (2017 vs. Penn State; 2019 vs. Indiana) . . . it marked his third career game with four field goals (2017 at Rutgers; 2019 vs. Tulsa) . . . Coghlin scored 13 points, the fifth time this season he has reached double figures in scoring and 10th in his career . . . Coghlin now has 53 career field goals, which is sixth in school history . . . Coghlin's 20 field goals this season are a career high and the seventh-most in MSU single-season history.
• Jake Hartbarger had two punts for 94 yards (47.0 avg.), his best average since the Indiana game on Sept. 28 (54.2 avg.).
