Spartans Fall to Buckeyes, 4-1

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team fell to No. 19 Ohio State, 4-1, on Friday evening at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The team is now 11-9 overall and 2-4 in Big Ten matches.
The Buckeyes secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Senior Emily Metcalf and freshman Maja Pietrowicz fell to Shiori Fukuda and Luna Dormet, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles. The doubles point was clinched on court two, with Ohio State's Andrea Ballinger and Kolie Allen picking up a win over junior Samantha Memije and freshman Nicole Stephens.
In singles play, freshman Nicole Stephens picked up the lone win for the Spartans on court five, defeating Mary Beth Hurley, 6-4, 6-0, tying the match at 1-1.
The Buckeyes jumped back on top as Memije fell to No. 78 Fukuda, 6-1, 6-4 at first singles. At the No. 4 spot, Pietrowicz fell to Danielle Wolf, 7-5, 6-4, to go up 3-1. Ohio State clinched the match at No. 2 singles, as freshman Lauren Lemonds dropped a 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) decision to No. 61 Allen.
The Spartans conclude the home portion of the regular season on Sunday, March 31, at 12 p.m. as the team recognizes Emily Metcalf and Davina Nguyen on Senior Day. The match will take place at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
