Spartans Begin Spring Break Trip in Las Vegas

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team heads to Las Vegas, Nevada, this week for their spring break trip, with matches against host UNLV and the University of San Diego. The Spartans will play UNLV on Friday, March 8, with the match set to begin at 1:30 p.m. ET/ 10:30 a.m. PT. MSU will close out the trip with a match against San Diego on Sunday, March 10, at 4:30 p.m. ET/ 1:30 p.m. PT.
This will be the Spartans' first-ever meeting in program history with both UNLV and San Diego.
Last time out, the Spartans defeated DePaul at home, 4-0, on Friday, March 1. The team improved to 9-4 on the season and an undefeated 6-0 in home matches. MSU has now won five of their last six matches after last week's victory over the Blue Demons.
The Spartans have been strong in doubles this season, securing the point in ten of 13 matches.
Senior Emily Metcalf and freshman Maja Pietrowicz have continued to lead the doubles lineup for the Spartans this spring, going 10-1 at the No. 1 doubles position with six-straight wins.
Metcalf and senior Davina Nguyen earned singles victories last week against DePaul, with Nguyen earning her eighth singles win of the season. Metcalf clinched the 4-0 decision against DePaul with a 6-3, 6-1 victory on court four.
The Spartans return home next weekend to begin Big Ten play with matches against Iowa and Nebraska. MSU will take on Iowa in the home conference opener on Saturday, March 16, at 12 p.m. The Spartans then close out the weekend hosting Nebraska on Sunday, March 17, at 12 p.m.
