Gopher Ace Snaps Three-Game Spartan win streak.
SPARTAN SYNOPSIS
No. 19/12 Minnesota (29-10, 9-1 B1G) received a stellar performance from their ace Amber Fiser and a big day at the plate with nine extra-base hits to record a 7-1 victory over MSU in the first game of a Big Ten doubleheader in Minneapolis. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Spartans. Â
Â
The series was cut down to a Sunday doubleheader between the two teams, as inclement weather caused both a Friday cancellation and some travel issues for the Spartans.Â
Â
MSU (15-23, 3-7 B1G) got on the board in the top of the first and left two runners in two different innings (a game total of seven left on base), but the senior Fiser was also on her game, recording 13 strikeouts and allowing five base hits. On the other side, the Gopher bats ripped off nine extra-base hits among their 11 base knocks, including three triples. Leadoff batter MaKenna Partain was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a triple, while Natalie DenHartog and Emma Burns also had a pair of base hits.
Â
For the Spartans, Alli Walker scattered five hits over her three-plus innings and took the loss. MSU's five base hits were scattered among five players, with Charla Echols, Ebonee Echols, and Lexi White all smacking doubles.Â
Â
The nightcap of this twinbill starts at approx.. 2:45 in Minneapolis.Â

STATS AND STORYLINES
- The Spartans got things going right away off Minnesota starter Amber Fiser. While the Gopher ace started off the game with astrikeout of Melanie Baccay – the 500th strikeout of  her career, Charla Echols and Ebonee Echols each smacked a double, with Ebonee Echols' ground-rule two-bagger bringing home her sister for a 1-0 MU lead.Â
- The Gophers tied the game in the bottom of the first.  Walker led off the inning with a walk to MaKenna Partain, but a strikeout of Maddie Houlihan and a fielder's choice left a runner at first with two outs. An outfield error on a Natalie DenHartog fly ball allowed Hope Brandner to score to tie the game at 1-1.Â
- The Gophers drew a one-out walk to Emma Burns in the bottom of the second, and Partain smacked a two-out double to move Burns to third. Houlihan followed with a second consecutive double into left center for the home team, plating both Burns and Partain for a 3-1 lead.
Â
- MSU threatened in the top of the fourth. Lexi White drew a two-out walk and moved to third on a single to shallow center by Shae Schreckengost. FIser worked out of the jam to strand the two Spartan runners, the second time in the first four innings that a pair were left for MSU.Â
- MSU made a pitching change in the bottom of the fourth, bringing on Leah Shipp. Shipp inherited one runner after a leadoff single by Burns, and after a sac bunt that moved her to second, she came home on a double by Partain, her second hit of the day. That made it a 4-1 Gopher lead.
 Â
- Minnesota brought its big swings to the plate in the bottom of the fifth. Katelyn Kemetmueller led off the inning with a double, and Anne Miller followed with a triple to make it a 5-1 game. Allie Arneson reached on a fielder's choice, as Scheckengost made a nice play at the plate to get pinch runner Alli Lindner and keep a run off the board. Burns and Partain added two more triples in the frame to push the lead out to 7-1. MSU brought on Jordan Watson to pitch with two outs, and she retired Houlihan on a ground ball to get out of the inning.
