EAST LANSING – This year's Stanley Cup Final will feature a pair of Spartans in Torey Krug of the Boston Bruins and Mackenzie MacEachern of the St. Louis Blues. The two teams begin the best-of-seven series on Monday, May 27 at 8 p.m. ET in Boston.
This year's Cup Final matchup ensures that a Spartan will hoist the sport's ultimate prize. The last Spartan part of a Stanley Cup winner was Duncan Keith with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2015.
Krug is tied for second in assists in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with 11. The Livonia native has 12 points in the playoffs, seven of which have come on the Bruins' top-ranked power play.
Krug, who put up 83 points during his three seasons in Green and White (2009-12), is in his eighth season with the Bruins. He recorded at least 50 points for the third straight year this season and also became Boston's highest-scoring American-born player in franchise history.
MacEachern has yet to see action in this year's playoffs after making his NHL debut on Jan. 10. He played in 29 games for the Blues and scored his first-career goal on Jan. 21 at Los Angeles. The Troy native produced a total of five points (3g, 2a), including a game-winning goal vs. Nashville on Feb. 9.
MacEachern, who was a third-round pick of St. Louis in 2012, recorded 68 points in three seasons for the Spartans (2013-16).
