TOP PERFORMERS
- Ebonee Echols was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer  and a walk.
- MacKenzie Meech smacked a double, her ninth of the season
- Jordan Watson had two strong innings of relief, allowing one base hit in the final two frames.Â
STATS AND STORYLINES
- MSU took a lead via a first-inning  home run for the second straight day. Caitie Ladd led off the ballgame with a walk, and with two outs, Ebonee Echols stepped in and hit a homer to center, her sixth of the season.
- Anyssa Iliopoulos tied the game up in the home half of the first with her second homer in two days, a shot to right.Â
- The Scarlet Knights put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the second, getting four base hits. For the Spartans, Charla Echols aided the defense in a big way by gunning down two would-be base stealers.
- Laney Joyner put a single into left field to lead off the third inning, and Charla Echols reached on a fielder's choice. MacKenzie Meech doubled to the wall in left to put two runners in scoring position for the Spartans, and Corah Price walked Ebonee Echols to load the bases with two outs. Price got out of the jam with a fly ball to left center to keep MSU off the board.
- Iliopoulos improved to 3-for-3 on the day with a two-run homer in the fifth, her second homer in the game. Her shot to left pushed the Rutgers lead out to 6-2, and forced a pitching change for MSU, as Jordan Watson came on for her first action of the weekend. Watson retired the first three batters she saw in order for an efficient inning.Â
- In the top of the sixth,  Melanie Baccay drew a one-out walk, and she moved to third when Courtney Callahan singled through the right side to put runners at the corners. Kelly Zackrison stepped in and legged out an infield single, scoring Baccay to cut the deficit to 6-3.
- After MSU scored in the top of the sixth, the home team quickly got it back in the bottom of the inning on a Spartan error, a sac bunt, and an RBI single by Jess Hughes that made it 7-3.Â
