
Several Spartans to Compete in USATF Outdoor Championships

Kiprotich, Evans and Franklin will compete.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - One current Michigan State student-athlete and two former All-Americans have qualified for the 2019 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships that will be held July 25-28 in Des Moines, Iowa. 
Former Michigan State All-American Justine Kiprotich will run in the first round of the 1,500m on Friday, July 26 at 5:30 p.m. ET. Jerimiah Evans who will be a junior next season will compete in the discus, while former All-American and Big Ten Champion Tori Franklin will compete in the triple jump.
The former Spartan, who was the runner-up in the 1,500m, at the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, will be competing for the first time for the United State. Kiprotich earned his U.S. citizenship last year. Kiprotich qualified for the USATF Outdoor Championships with a personal-best time of 3:38.83 ran at the Sunset Tour in Azusa, California on July 10. His collegiate best was 3:41.39 set in the finals of the NCAA Championships on June 7.
Evans, who earned All-American honors for the first time this season, will compete in the discus. Evans qualified with a throw of 61.22m. He finished ninth in the NCAA Championships in June. The men's discus final will start at 6:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, July 25.
Franklin will also compete in the championships in the triple jump. She has the second best qualifying time with a mark of 14.57m. The women's triple jump finals will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 25. Franklin won Big Ten titles in both 2014 and 2015 i the triple jump.
