EUGENE, Ore. – On the second day of the 2026 NCAA Championships, Kate Stewart-Barnett qualified for the finals of the 3000m steeplechase at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon on Thursday.
Stewart-Barnett will return to the final in the 3000m steeplechase for the second-straight season. She finished third in the first heat with a time of 9:44.76 to qualify on time.
"Going through the race, I was just thinking that I've been here before. I know it's going to be hard. I know that I belong at the front of the race and, belong controlling the pace of it. And my experience is going to serve me really well in the end," Stewart-Barnett said. "I am excited for the final. I feel like it's never guaranteed, no matter how good you are making that final. And so, I am very excited to be back here again. And just ready to compete."
She finished sixth in the NCAA Championships last season, breaking the Michigan State school record with a time of 9:33.21. Stewart-Barnett will conclude her well-decorated Michigan State career on Saturday at 8:24 p.m. ET.
She is the only Michigan State woman competing in the NCAA Championships.
