MSU Soccer Continues Homestand Against FGCU Monday

The Spartans start the season with four home games.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - No. 7 Michigan State men's soccer continues its homestand, taking on Florida Gulf Coast in a Labor Day matchup on Monday, Sept. 2 at 2 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium. This is the first meeting between the Spartans and the Eagles.
Michigan State is in the midst of a four-game homestand to start the season. MSU will also take on Washington (Sept. 6) and Cornell (Sept. 8).
SCOUTING FGCU
This is the first meeting between the Spartans and the Eagles. Florida Gulf Coast is off to a fast start with a 4-3 win over No. 24 Michigan in Ann Arbor on Friday. Ryan Medilah earned the program's sixth overall hat trick, scoring twice in the first half.
The win was the first against a ranked opponent in the regular season since the Eagles stopped No. 8 UCF 2-1 in 2011.
RENSING SAYS
"I think they've got a couple dynamic players from what I've seen from a far and on the stat sheet from last year. They're well coached and Jesse (Comier) did a great job at Vermont. He's in his second year at Florida Gulf Coast, so I think we'll get another good team. I think, like I said, all of our non-conference games our opponents have winning records from the year before and most of the time these teams that come up to play us, play us and Michigan. They usually bring a team that they feel is capable, and I think that's how Florida Gulf Coast is going to feel.
LAST TIME OUT
In the season opener, No. 7 Michigan State men's soccer tied SIUE Friday in an afternoon battle, 0-0 in double overtime.
The game marked the head coaching debut for the Cougars Cale Wassermann, who was an assistant coach for the Spartans for four seasons, including last season's College Cup run.
Michigan State had four freshmen earn their first minutes in the Spartan Green and White, including midfielder Alaa Algahim who had three shots in 107 minutes of action. Freshmen Gianni Ferri, Nick Stone and Kellan Landefeld also saw action.
