Men's Tennis Wraps up Day One of Ivy Plus, Bayliss Invites

SOUTH BEND/PRINCETON - The Michigan State men's tennis team wrapped up day one of the Bayliss/Farnsworth-Ivy Plus Invites on Friday, collecting three wins in South Bend and Princeton.Â
"Super impressed on how much the team is playing at a very high level this early in the season. We still are developing an excited about our opportunities tomorrow," said head coach Gene Orlando.
Freshman Jarreau Campbell earned his first collegiate victory after defeating Raul Teichmann of Cleveland State in a match tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (8). Campbell joined fellow freshman Kazuki Matsuno in South Bend, as the two teamed up in doubles action along with singles play. Matsuno fell in singles action to Marcus Sulen of Louisville, 6-1, 6-3. Campbell and Matsuno fell short in two doubles matches at the Eck Tennis Pavilion, dropping a 6-4 decision to James Bell/Matthew Fung of Louisville (6-4) and Shunya Maruyama/Andre Saleh of Nebraska (6-1.
Sophomore Anthony Pero got in the win column at the Princeton Invite, taking down Dartmouth's David Horneffer in striaght sets, 6-3, 7-5. Pero and sophomore Carson Gates went 1-1 on the day in doubles play, knocking off Niraj Komatineni and Jacob Walker of Brown (8-6) before falling to Buffalo's Vilhelm Fridell and Valdemar Holm (8-4). Gates fell to Princeton's Thomas Bosancic in three sets, 7-5, 5-7, 6-1. Junior John Carlin went 0-2 with freshman Drew Keene in doubles play.
