Men's Tennis Falls on the Road to Middle Tennessee State

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Michigan State men's tennis dropped a 6-1 decision to Middle Tennesee State on Friday evening at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro.

"It was a tough 6-1 loss tonight, Middle Tennessee State played well and was the better team tonight," said MSU men's tennis head coach Gene Orlando. "We can play better and look forward to getting better through hard work!"

Middle Tennesee claimed the doubles point with a pair of wins on courts one and two. Tom Moonen and Chris Edge of Middle Tennessee started the action with a 6-2 win over freshman tandem Jarreau Campbell and Drew Keene. Freshman Kazuki Matsuno and junior Josh Mukerjee answered for MSU with their second win of the season on court two, 6-2, over Max Rauch and Francisco Rocha. The Blue Raiders clinched the point after a 6-2 by No. 48 Pavel Motl and Stijn Slump on the top court, 6-2, over sophomore Anthony Pero and junior John Carlin.

The Blue Raiders claimed wins on courts three, one and six to clinch the match over the Spartans. Sophomore Carson Gates took on No. 76 Chris Edge on court three, falling in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. MTSU's Tom Moonen followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Carlin on the top court and Motl took down Mukherjee on court six, 6-2, 6-3.

Rocha defeated Campbell in straight sets, 6-3. 6-3. Pero tallied MSU's lone point on court two with a match tiebreaker win over Slump. Pero dropped the first set but rallied to take the second, 6-4, and claimed the match tiebreaker in lieu of a third set, 10-8 for the Spartans. Keene fell to Rauch on the fourth court in a close one, 6-2, 7-6(1).
