Poe Earns Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week Honors

Senior Jeralyn Poe set personal-best and meet record in the 3,000m last weekend.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State track senior Jeralyn Poe has been named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational in Ann Arbor, Michigan, as announced by the conference Wednesday.

Poe becomes the first Spartan track athlete to be awarded Big Ten Indoor Track Athlete of the Week since Will Agodu earned the honor on Dec. 6, 2017. Nick Guerrant earned Big Ten Indoor Field Athlete of the Week last season on Feb. 6.

Poe, a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, set a meet record at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational in the 3,000m, competing against Big Ten athletes from Ohio State and Michigan. The senior clocked in at a personal-best 9:19.82 for the event title, besting her previous PR by over seven seconds.

With the time, Poe collected the sixth-fastest time in the NCAA so far this season. In addition, Poe is ranked sixth in the nation in the 3,000m after her season-opening performance.

Poe now stands seventh all-time in Michigan State's top times in the 3,000m.

The Spartans return to competition at the Power Five Invitational in Ann Arbor on Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
