EAST LANSING – The No. 13 Michigan State women's golf team begins is spring season this weekend when it heads to Florida for the UCF Challenge. The three-round, 54-hole tournament will take place Sunday – Tuesday at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando.
After practicing in various locations over the past few weeks, the Spartans are ready to resume competition in 2020.
"We headed south to Sarasota, Florida, over Martin Luther King weekend and played and practiced for a few days," MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll said. "We had a great time, the weather was nice and we got a lot of productive work done.
"This tournament has a nice field and we're heading down a day early to play Isleworth with some of our Spartan friends, so it will be good to get another day of practice in down there before the tournament begins."
The Course
Eagle Creek Golf Club was designed by Ron Garl and Howard Swan and will play as a par-72, 6,349-yard course for the tournament.
The Field
The 15-team field includes four teams in the Golfstat top-15: College of Charleston (58), East Carolina (71), Illinois (14), Iowa State (40), Kennesaw State (62), Kent State (3), Miami (39), Michigan State (13), NC State (69), Oklahoma State (15), Old Dominion (61), Penn State (79), Purdue (70), Sacramento State (64) and UNCW (108).
The Lineup
The Spartans will go with Paz Marfa Sans, Yurika Tanida, Ally Geer-Park, Valery Plata and Haylin Harris, while Nina Rissi and Sydney Naro will play as individuals.

Spartans at the UCF Challenge
The Spartans played in the event for the first time last season and took seventh place at 7-under-par 857. Two Spartans placed in the top five as Allyson Geer-Park took fourth place at 8-under-par 208 and Yurika Tanida fifth at 7-under-par 209.
Recapping the Fall
The Spartans had two tournament wins in the fall and placed in the top three in three of four events. After a third-place finish at the Inverness Club to start the year, MSU won its home tournament – the Mary Fossum Invitational – and then finished atop a talented field at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational the next time out. Individually, a pair of Spartans also claimed medalist honors at both tournaments as Paz Marfa Sans won the Fossum and Valery Plata won the Tar Heel Invite.
From the Head Coach
"Everyone around here is just ready to go. We had such a nice fall and you want to continue playing when you're on that roll, so now it's getting back to what we're doing, knowing that we'll be on the road every other week until the third week of May. So, we have a long haul here and we have to make things one shot at a time; put in our practice time; our time in the weight room; and our time in the classroom to be successful."
