A Message from Athletic Director Bill Beekman on Football Game Day
10/23/2020 11:08:00 AM | Football
On Saturday, our Spartan football team will return to competition to kick-off the 2020 season and the Mel Tucker era – a moment many of us, particularly our student-athletes, have been awaiting for quite some time. As they take the field against Rutgers, we hope you tune in to the Big Ten Network at 12pm to see and cheer on our Spartan student-athletes in action.
As much as we desire to welcome 75,000 fans into Spartan Stadium and many more on our campus, health and safety is our priority. I encourage you to hold the same priorities as you watch Spartan football responsibly. Sadly, there will be no pre-game walk past the Spartan Statue, no tailgating with friends, and, outside of a few family members of our players and football staff, no fans in the stands. Simply put, it will be a different experience.
But as Spartans we rise above our challenges. Although we might be separated, we can all come together in spirit to support the Green and White. I'm wishing all of you a safe and healthy season so we can come back together soon to make Spartan Stadium roar once again.
Thank you and Go Green,
Bill Beekman
2020 Game Day Policies
• All Spartan fans are encouraged to watch games from home in a safe manner. Fans are strongly discouraged from hosting watch parties, including alumni clubs around the country and world.
• There will be no distribution of tickets to the public. Football student-athletes and football staff will be allowed a limited number of guest passes for family.
• Per Michigan State University protocol, face coverings must be worn by everyone indoors and outdoors while you are on property owned or governed by MSU and while participating in MSU-related or MSU-sponsored activities. For more information, please visit https://msu.edu/together-we-will/keeping-spartans-safe/.
• There will be no tailgating on campus, and all parking lots will be closed to the public. Per MSU ordinance 21.03, that means open alcohol remains prohibited on campus.
• The Spartan marching band, cheer and dance teams will not be taking part in the gameday experience. There will not be a player walk to the stadium prior to the game.
• MSU and East Lansing Police will partner on- and off-campus to ensure everyone is being safe on gamedays.
