Four Athletes Join Spartan Softball for 2021

East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State head coach Jacquie Joseph has announced the addition of four Spartans who will enroll at Michigan State and be a part of the softball program in the fall of 2021:Â Faith Guidry (Baytown, Texas), Macy Lee (Phoenix, Ariz.), Ashley Martin (Scottsburg, Ind.), and Kayleigh Roper (Venice, Fla.).

"We are excited to add four athletes of this caliber to our roster next fall," said head coach Jacquie Joseph, who will be entering her 27th season as the Spartan mentor in 2021. "All four are talented and will look to contribute right as we start fall ball next September. It has been an interesting time as they navigate their collegiate recruiting process throughout a global pandemic, but all four have been very impressive in the way that they handled the challenges thrown at them. We look forward to them coming to campus next fall and what the next four years will bring."

CLUB: Ranked No. 100 among pitchers in the 2021 class (171st in the class overall) by Extra Innings Softball … Played for Danny Elder and Bryan Harris with the Texas Bombers … Won the Texas Fall Gold Cup, Scrapyard Texas Power Challenge in 2017 and the Southeast Invite in Oxford, Mississippi in the summer of 2018.Â
HIGH SCHOOL: In a Covid-shortened junior season, named to the 2020 Baytown Sun All-Spring Select Team … Also named to the paper's Most Improved Player and Newcomer of the Year Honorable Mention lists … Helped Barbers Hill to a pair of district titles as a freshman and a sophomore, a state semi-final appearance in her first season, and a regional final bid as a sophomore … Also played four years of scholastic volleyball (earning Honorable Mention All-District) as a junior … Earned a pair of varsity letters in basketball as well (2018, 2019).
PERSONAL: Daughter of Kevin and Shannon Guidry … Has two older sisters, Ashley and Raegan, and a brother, Josh … Mother was a four-year standout in basketball at Rice (1990-95) … Brother plays baseball at Letourneau University and helped the team to a American Southwest Conference title in 2020 … Enjoys longboarding, tubing, and fishing … Plans on a pre-med track at MSU and aspires to be a physicians assistant in emergency medicine. Â

CLUB: Ranked No. 53 among catchers in the Class of 2021 (No. 122 overall) by Extra Innings Softball … Ranked No. 97 among 2021 recruits by Fastpitch Network (No. 33 catcher) … In 2019, helped the Hotshots to a second-place finish at the Pennsbury Invitational and ninth at Colorado Fireworks … Also helped team to a 25th place finish at PGF Nationals-Premier and 17th place at TC/USA Nationals in 2019.
HIGH SCHOOL:  Three-year letterwinner …  Over 54 games in her career, has hit .424 with 17 extra-base hits (13 doubles), 42 RBI, and boasting a .449 on-base percentage …  Was hitting a career-best .552 with 11 RBI and six doubles in nine games in the spring of 2020 before the season was halted … 6A Conference First Team All-Region and Second Team All-Conference pick as a sophomore, while earning Xavier Defensive Player of the Year kudos … As a freshman, earned a spot on the 6A Conference All-Region Second Team … Xavier Rookie of the Year in 2018 … Sports360AZ All-Academic Softball selection her first two seasons … Member of the National Honor Society and earned her first academic letter in 2019 … Member of the National Charity League …President of the Junior National Honor Society in 2016-17.

ASHLEY MARTIN

CLUB: Ranked No. 133 among pitchers (No. 201 overall) on the Extra Inning Softball recruiting rankings for the class of 2021 … Played for coach Ryan Greenwood … With Indiana Magic Gold, earned a 2018 National Championship – Premier berth.
HIGH SCHOOL:  In the circle during her scholastic career at Scottsburg, has a combined 252 innings of work (43 appearances), including 30 complete games and 388 strikeouts … At the plate, hit a combined .438 over her first two varsity seasons, with 45 RBI and 32 extra-base hits (12 homers) …  As a sophomore, earned All-Mid-Southern Conference kudos, while as a freshman, she led the state of Indiana with 243 strikeouts in the regular season and earned a Mid-South Conference Honorable Mention nod … Earned her team's Outstanding Pitching and Best Batting Average awards … Was a basketball letterwinner in 2017.

CLUB: Among the top 200 infield recruits in the rankings produced by Extra Innings Softball … Most recently played club for  coach Johnny Manetta at Rock Gold-Waye but previously played for the Tampa Mustangs … Selected for the 2016 Colorado Sparkler All-Star Team when she was a member of the Louisville (Ky.) Lady Sluggers.
HIGH SCHOOL: Four-year starter at Venice High School, captaining the team as a sophomore, junior and senior … 2020 Florida 6A Player of the Year and Sun Preps Spring Sports MVP … In a shortened junior season, was hitting .424 with 14 RBI in 10 games … Earned First Team All-State honors as a freshman and junior … Three-Time All-State Academic honors kudos … Was a Herald-Tribune Preps All-Area team selection in 2018 and 2019 … Was her team's MVP in 2019 as a sophomore … Was a Track & Field letterwinner in 2017 … Earned a varsity letter in seventh grade at Madison Central High School in Richmond, Ky and was a 2016 All-District Tournament selection prior to her family relocating to Florida ...
