DeRidder Named B1G Second Star of the Week

EAST LANSING – Michigan State junior goaltender Drew DeRidder was named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday. DeRidder recorded his first career shutout last weekend as the Spartans went 1-0-1 against Arizona State to start the 2020-21 season.
In all, DeRidder stopped 52 of 53 shots for a .981 save percentage and 0.48 GAA in the Spartans' unbeaten weekend. The native of Fenton made 22 saves in the season opener, then followed up a 30-save shutout in a 2-0 win the following night. With MSU leading 1-0 entering the third period of game two, DeRidder made 16 stops in the final stanza to help ensure the victory.
The weekly conference honor is the second of DeRidder's career, having last been recognized on Dec. 4, 2018.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday (5:30 p.m.) and Sunday (5:30 p.m.) at No. 10 Ohio State.
