No. 13 Spartans Climb Leaderboard on Final Day, Finish Third at Allstate Sugar Bowl

NEW ORLEANS – The 13th-ranked Michigan State women's golf team moved up two spots on the final day of the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Tuesday to finish in third place. The Spartans shot a 2-under-par 290 in Tuesday's third round and finished the event at English Turn Golf and Country Club 1-under-par 875 (292-293-290), which was six shots back of second place Miami. No. 10 Florida pulled away in the 15-team field, winning with a score of 23-under-par 853.

Three Spartans finished in the top 20, including Paz Marfa Sans (10th), Allyson Geer-Park (19th) and Valery Plata (19th).
Marfa Sans carded her second straight even-par 73 on Tuesday to ensure her fourth top-10 finish of the season. She was 3-under-par 216 (70-73-73) for the tournament.
Geer-Park had the second lowest score of the tournament by any player and best by a Spartan with a 5-under-par 68 on Tuesday. Geer-Park bogeyed her first hole of the day, but went on to collect six birdies in what was her third round of the season in the 60s. She finished the tournament even-par 219 (75-76-68).
Plata was also even-par 219 (75-70-74) for the tournament after a 1-over-par 74 on Tuesday.
Yurika Tanida and Haylin Harris both tied for 34th place at 5-over-par 224. Tanida shot a 2-over-par 75 on Tuesday, while Harris carded a 3-over-par 76.
Nina Rissi played as an individual and tied for 26th place at 3-over-par 222 (72-76-74).
Florida's Clara Manzalini tied Miami's Anna Backman for medalist honors as both finished 7-under-par 212.
The Spartans are back in action March 16-17 at the Briar's Creek Invitational.
