Men's Swimming & Diving Makes Podium On Final Day Of B1Gs

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's swimming and diving team concluded Big Ten Championships this evening, finishing in 10th place with a score of 309, recording their most points ever at the Big Ten Championships.
"I'm so proud of our team and very proud of our seniors," said head coach Matt Gianiodis. "They finished so well, and we scored 100 more points than we did last year. It has definitely been a reflection of their leadership."
The 400 freestyle relay team of Farley, Woods, Mork and Kevin Mills highlighted the day and made it onto the podium in eighth place with a time of 2:54.80, setting a new varsity record. The split time of 43.64 by Farley also establishes a new varsity record.
Four Spartans qualified for the evening's finals in their respective events.
Aidan Farley, with a time of 43.72, qualified for the B Final in the 100 freestyle prelims as well as set a new personal best, and moved up to second all-time at Michigan State. In the Evening session, Farley finished 16th overall with a time of 44.21.
Payton Woods qualified for the 100 freestyle C Finals, clocking a time of 44.15 in the morning heat, a new personal best and keeping him in fourth all-time at MSU. Woods finished with a time of 44.17 to take 21st in the finals.
In the 200 butterfly prelims, Scott Piper recorded a time of 1:46.17, advancing him to the evening's B Finals. Piper took 16th with a time of 1:46.35.
The final Spartan advancing to the evening session was Michael Schwers into the 200 butterfly C Finals with a time of 1:46.87. With an evening time of 1:46.12, Schwers finished 19th, keeping him third all-time at MSU.
Guy Moskovich moved up to fourth all-time and finished 12th overall in the 1650 freestyle after clocking a personal best time of 15:14.75.
Making his way to tenth all-time at Michigan State was Travis Nitkiewicz in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:03.13 in the prelims.
Two more Spartans also set personal bests on the final day of the Big Ten Championships. Nehemiah Mork clocked a time of 44.70 in the 100 freestyle prelims, while Nick Tullemans clocked a personal best time of 2:03.13 in the 200 breaststroke prelims.
The Spartans are back in action March 12-14 as they send representatives to the NCAA Diving Regionals in Lexington, Kentucky and to the National Invitational Championships in Cleveland, Ohio.
