EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State senior linebacker Antjuan Simmons has been named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List.
The Lott IMPACT Trophy was named in honor of Ronnie Lott, a two-time All-American for USC and College Football Hall of Fame Inductee. Lott went on to win four Super Bowl rings with the San Francisco 49ers, made 10 trips to the Pro Bowl and earned a spot in Pro Football's Hall of Fame. He was a leader who made an IMPACT both on and off the field and continues to exemplify character in his personal life.
The Lott IMPACT Trophy has raised more than $1.6 million for scholarships and other youth-related charities throughout the country. IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
Simmons, who started all 13 games last year, had a breakout season with a team-leading 90 tackles and a career-best 15 tackles for loss as junior in 2019. He ranked sixth in the Big Ten in tackles and seventh in the conference in TFLs. He also recorded a career-high 3.5 sacks, three pass break-ups and one interception while leading MSU with 865 snaps on defense. Simmons picked up honorable mention All-Big Ten accolades from the coaches and media and earned MSU's Outstanding Underclass Back Award on defense.
A three-year letterwinner, Simmons has 156 career tackles, most of any active Spartan entering the 2020 season. He has played in 39 career games, including 13 starts at linebacker, and has 17 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, three pass break-ups, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
