EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State football program welcomed several midyear enrollees for the 2021 spring semester this week.
The enrollees include four freshmen who signed their National Letters of Intent in December: tight end Kameron Allen, offensive lineman Ethan Boyd, quarterback Hamp Fay and safety Michael Gravely Jr.
The Spartans also welcomed transfers Kendall Brooks (DB, North Greenville), Jarrett Horst (OT, Arkansas State), Drew Jordan (DE, Duke), Spencer Rowland (DB, Wheaton College), Anthony Russo (QB, Temple) and Kenneth Walker III (RB, Wake Forest).
Brooks played in 19 games at Division II North Greenville University in 2018-19, recording 78 tackles, including two for losses, along with two pass break-ups and one fumble recovery. He ranked third on the Crusaders in 2019 with 56 tackles. North Greenville did not play in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Brooks was an all-state honoree at Swansea High School in Swansea, South Carolina.
Horst started 20 games at left tackle the past two seasons at Arkansas State. He was a third-team All-Sun Belt selection in 2019 after starting all 13 games for the Red Wolves and was named to the Outland Trophy Watch List entering the 2020 season, where he started seven games. A four-year letterwinner at Middleton High School in Middletown, Wisconsin, Horst played his true freshman season at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa.
Jordan played in 48 games for the Blue Devils from 2017-20, including 21 starts at defensive end, and compiled 102 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 10 sacks during his time at Duke. A native of Suwanee, Georgia, Jordan recorded career highs in tackles (35), tackles for loss (4.5), sacks (3.5) and fumble recoveries as a senior in 2020. He was rated a four-star prospect out of North Gwinnett High School in Georgia and graduated from Duke in December 2020 with a bachelor's degree in evolutionary anthropology.
Rowland, who enters the program as a walk-on, was a Division III AP First Team All-American at Wheaton College in 2019 with four interceptions, 13 pass break-ups and 36 tackles. Originally from Greenville, Michigan, Rowland played at NorthPointe Christian High School in Grand Rapids.
Russo is a graduate transfer quarterback from Temple who played 31 games for the Owls from 2017-20, including 26 starts. He has completed 60 percent of his passes (536-of-899) for 6,292 yards and 44 touchdowns in his career, and ranks among Temple's all-time leaders in passing yards (third with 6,292 yards), passing TDs (third with 44), passing completions (third with 536) and passing attempts (fourth with 899). As a redshirt junior in 2019, Russo set the Temple single-season record with 246 completions and also ranked among the single-season leaders in Owl history in passing attempts (second with 419), passing touchdowns (tied for third with 21), passing yards (third with 2,861) and total offense (fourth with 2,797 yards).
Walker rushed for 1,158 yards and 17 touchdowns in just 20 games during his first two seasons at Wake Forest. He rushed for 579 yards both in 2019 and 2020. Walker ranked tied for third in the ACC in 2020 in rushing touchdowns (13) and 10th in rushing (72.4 ypg). Prior to playing at Wake Forest, Walker was an extremely productive running back at Arlington High School in Tennessee, rushing for 3,485 yards, including 13 100-yard games, with 41 touchdowns in his prep career.
