Spartans Open 2021 With First Round of the UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Florida – The Michigan State women's golf team opened play in the 2021 season on Sunday with the first round of the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Florida. The Spartans shot a 4-over-par 292 and stand in 13th place after the opening round at Eagle Creek Golf Club.

Arkansas leads the field after a 15-under-par 273, followed by Kent State at 12-under, Miami and Wake Forest, both at 11-under.
Senior Yurika Tanida led the Spartans on Sunday with a 2-under-par 70 and is tied for 15th place. Tanida was 1-over through 14 holes then birdied three of her last four.
Valery Plata was 2-over-par at the turn, but fought back with two birdies on the back nine to shoot an even-par 72; she's tied for 31st place.
Paz Marfa Sans carded two birdies over her final three holes and finished with a 1-over-par 73 and is tied for 45th place.
Leila Raines shot a 5-over-par 77, while Haylin Harris a 7-over-par 79.
Kent State's Emily Price leads the field after a 7-under-par 65.
The Spartans will tee off from hole No. 10 in Monday's second round beginning at 8:50 a.m.
