Drew DeRidder Named Big Ten First Star of the Week

EAST LANSING – Michigan State junior goaltender Drew DeRidder has been named the Big Ten First Star of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday (Jan. 6). It's the third weekly conference honor for DeRidder this season and second straight first star recognition.
DeRidder yielded just one goal in each game against Penn State this past week, helping MSU go 1-1 against the Nittany Lions. DeRidder posted an impressive .970 save percentage in the series, helping limit a PSU team that averaged 3.38 goals per game to just two total goals.
The native of Fenton made 28 stops in a 1-0 loss on Sunday and came back with the 36 saves the following day in a 5-1 Spartan victory on Monday. With MSU leading 3-1 going into the third period on Monday, DeRidder stopped all 13 shots he faced in the final stanza.
On the season, DeRidder ranks second in the Big Ten in both save percentage (.943) and GAA (1.86).
Michigan State takes on Michigan in a home-and-home series this Friday, 7 p.m. in Ann Arbor, and Saturday, 4:30 p.m. in East Lansing, which will be televised by BTN.
