Michigan State Moves Past Western Michigan, 90-46

East Lansing, Mich. – Senior forward Gabe Brown (Ypsilanti, Mich./Belleville) scored 17 points to lead three players in double figures as Michigan State used a big second half to beat Western Michigan, 90-46, on Friday night at the Breslin Center.

The Spartans improved to 1-1 with the win, while Western Michigan falls to 1-1.

Redshirt senior Joey Hauser (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point/Marquette) had his fifth career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds and senior forward Marcus Bingham Jr. (Grand Rapids, Mich./GR Catholic Central) added 12 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Eleven different players scored for the Spartans, including nine players with at least five points.

Michigan State led by 21 at the break (46-25) and pushed the lead to more than 30 points, 62-31, on a fast break layup from Brown seven minutes into the second half.
The Spartans held the Broncos to just six points in the opening 10 minutes of the second half as the lead grew to 39 points, 70-31, on a fast break layup from junior guard Tyson Walker (Westbury, N.Y./Christ the King/Northeastern) with 10:07 to play.
MSU took its biggest lead of the game, 48 points (84-36) on a layup from freshman guard Jaden Akins (Farmington, Mich./Farmington/ Sunrise Christian Academy [Kan.]) with 4:38 left in the game.
The Spartans hit the first two baskets of the game, but three turnovers and three missed shots along with a trio of 3-pointers gave Western Michigan a 14-9 lead on a trey from Mack Smith with 14:15 on the clock.
MSU took the lead back, 16-15, on a pair of Bingham free throws with 11:51 left in the half.
The Broncos trailed by just two points, 21-19, after a layup from Cameron Kimble, but Michigan State held WMU scoreless for nearly five minutes as the Spartans used an 11-0 run to take a 32-19 lead on free throws from junior forward Malik Hall (Aurora, Ill./Sunrise Christian Academy [Kan.]) with 6:19 on the clock.
A layup from Bingham Jr. with 5:09 to play made it a 14-2 run and pushed the MSU lead to 34-21, and the Spartans went into the break with a 46-25 lead on a 3-pointer from Walker with three seconds left.
