Brown and Reichel Honored as PNC Achievers Student-Athletes of the Month

EAST LANSING, MICH. - Michigan State Athletics and PNC Bank are partnering to recognize the PNC Achievers Student-Athletes of the Month. Throughout the 2021-22 season, deserving Spartan student-athletes will be recognized for displaying well-rounded achievement through leadership in the classroom, in the community, and in competition.
The honorees for October are Gabe Brown (men's basketball) and Katie Reichel (women's rowing).
Brown, a senior forward from Ypsilanti, Mich., is in the sports coaching and leadership master's program. Brown, who earned his bachelor's degree in communication in three years, was an Academic All-Big Ten selection as a junior. He enters the 2021-22 season as a team captain and likely starter. Last season, Brown finished fifth on the team in scoring (7.2 points per game), second in field goal percentage (47.1%) and first in 3-point percentage (42.0%). Off the court, Brown is a member of MSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and has been involved with many community service initiatives with his fellow Spartans.
Reichel is a senior journalism major from Washington, Ill. She was a two-time participant at the Big Ten Championships, including placing fourth in 2019. Last year, Reichel was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten. Off the water, she has been heavily involved with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and the Green Bandana Project.
